Front Doors
What moves the number
Front door replacement means the old door and its frame both come out, and a new unit sized to the actual opening goes in. That is what separates it from a repaint or a slab swap: the frame, the sill and the weather seal all leave with the door, which is why a replacement fixes a sticking, draughty door and a refinish does not.
Four things move the price. The material you choose. The size of the opening. Whether you add sidelights or a transom. And the condition of the frame behind the old door, which nobody can see until the old one is out. A straight swap into a sound frame is the cheapest version of this job. An opening with a rotted sill, or one you want widened, costs more because there is carpentry before there is a door.
We measure at your house, quote the whole job as one number including the frame work and the disposal, and that number is fixed before we start. If you already know you want custom iron doors, or you are choosing between steel and fiberglass entry doors, those pages go deeper on the material itself.
The old door does not become your problem
Two quiet questions sit behind most replacement enquiries: what happens to the frame, and who gets rid of the old door.
The frame comes out with the door. We pull the old unit, strip the opening back to the rough framing, and check the sill and the studs before anything new goes in. If the sill has taken water, which is common on a New Jersey door that has been leaking for a few winters, we rebuild it. That is carpentry, and it sits in the quote you approved rather than appearing as a surprise on the day.
The old door, the old frame, the old hardware and all the packaging leave with our crew. You do not store it, cut it up or book a bulk pickup. If the opening needs to be made larger or smaller, we frame it to the new size and finish the interior trim, so there is no patch of bare wall left behind.
The difference you notice in week one
Your house is never left open overnight
The fitting itself is one visit. The lead time in front of it is the part people underestimate.
Week one: we measure the real opening at your house, not off a photo, and settle the material, the glass and the hardware.
Weeks two to six: your door is built to those measurements. A stock steel unit sits at the short end. A custom door with specific scrollwork and glass sits at the long end, because it is made for your opening and nobody else’s.
Fitting day: the crew arrives in the morning, the old unit comes out, the new one goes in, and the opening is sealed and locking before they leave. A straight swap takes a few hours. A rebuilt sill or a resized opening can take the full day.
We do not start pulling a door out until the new one is on site and checked, so your house is never left open overnight.
